Charlotte FC Sells Forward Daniel Rios to C D. Guadalajara

daniel rios charlotte fc

It got even better for Charlotte two minutes into added time when McKinze Gaines took a flicked pass from Santos down the right and put it across the goalmouth where Rios claimed his fourth goal. When tested, Sisniega held his ground, as did the men in front, deflecting or blocking Union incursions. Even then, this was against the best Philadelphia story to date since the club’s debut in 2010. The Union already had two more wins (18) than their top season to date, which was 16 in 2019 when they finished third in the East.

Champions Cup final awaits: Wilfried Nancy's Columbus Crew continue dominance vs. Liga MX

Charlotte FC have transferred forward Daniel Ríos to Liga MX’s Chivas for an undisclosed fee, the club announced Sunday. CHARLOTTE, NC (Sunday, December 25, 2022) – Charlotte FC today announced forward Daniel Rios has joined C.D. For most, Week 33 was about creating momentum heading into Decision Day this upcoming Sunday. LAFC and Vancouver Whitecaps FC passed that test with flying colors, allowing for leading roles on the latest Team of the Week presented by Audi.

Appearances and goals

Rather than follow that pattern, most of Sisniega’s distribution was more direct, sometimes long balls that had to be won or with mid-range targeted throws and kicks that found his teammates on the flanks. If the Union had planned on victimizing Charlotte with a high press, they never really got the chance. “The game plan wasn’t changed when Kristijan was (ruled) out because we are blessed to have a good set of goalkeepers, really good,” Lattanzio said.

It hasn’t been an easy season, but we are still fighting, we still believe and I’m so happy that I was able to score. With Ríos’ departure, Charlotte retain Andre Shinyashiki and Karol Swiderski as options at center forward. They’re also close to formally adding Enzo Copetti from Argentina’s Racing Club, as reported by MLSsoccer.com’s Tom Bogert. Rios returns to Liga MX, where he originally developed in the Chivas academy, after three seasons in MLS.

Another question regards who the backup goalkeeper would be if Kahlina cannot play. In the 72nd minute, Charlotte won a penalty kick when Nuno Santos’ shot, off a Jozwiak pass, was blocked by the outstretched arm of Kai Wagner. Rios calmly placed it inside the left post to give him Charlotte’s first hat trick and a 3-0 lead.

Daniel Ríos (footballer, born

The 27-year-old Mexican, acquired in an early-season trade from Nashville SC, is the 13th different player in MLS history to score at least four goals in a single game. Ríos’ four-goal performance was the first by a player on an expansion team in their inaugural season in MLS history, and his six goals on the season are the second most by a Charlotte player (Swiderski, 10). Under both former head coach Miguel Angel Ramierez as well as Lattanzio, Charlotte has made a habit, as so many teams do now, to play the ball closely to the defenders and then work out of the back with targeted passes.

NASR consists of members of print, television, radio, and online media. Ríos scored all four goals in Charlotte’s 4-0 victory over the Philadelphia Union, preventing the Eastern Conference leaders from staying in Supporters’ Shield contention and keeping their own Audi 2022 MLS Cup Playoffs hopes ticking. One week after Karol Swiderski took home MLS Player of the Week presented by Continental Tire honors, forward Daniel Ríos has earned the same award following a four-goal showing in Week 33.

Daniel Ríos: "We are still fighting, we still believe"

The Union have already secured a postseason spot, but this wasn't the type of performance it was looking for in the final road game of the regular season. It was the second game in a row in which Philadelphia failed to score, though the previous such situation resulted in a 0-0 draw with Atlanta. Rios, a 27-year-old midfielder, had a total of just two goals in 13 previous starts this season for Charlotte FC. A product of Chivas Guadalajara's youth academy, Rios made his name in USL on loan with North Carolina FC before Nashville acquired him. He was stellar at that level, with 40 goals in 62 appearances between Nashville and North Carolina. UPDATE (Feb. 25) – Charlotte FC have acquired forward Daniel Rios from Nashville SC for up to $500,000 in General Allocation Money, the clubs announced Friday.

HIGHLIGHTS: Philadelphia Union vs. Seattle Sounders FC April 30, 2024

Daniel Armando Ríos Calderón[a] (born 22 February 1995) is a Mexican professional footballer who plays as a forward for MLS side Atlanta United, on loan from Liga MX club Guadalajara. Kai Wagner of the Union was charged with a hand ball in the box that led to Rios' penalty kick. Charlotte FC ( , 41 points) have won three games in a row, avenging a shutout loss to Philadelphia in April.

His goals in the 24', 54', 72', and 90'+1' set up a must-win match for Charlotte FC on Wednesday against the Columbus Crew. CLTFC sits four points off the final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference with two games left to play. The match originally scheduled for July 30 was suspended due to severe weather and will resume in the 16th minute with the score still 0-0. Charlotte FC scored their first ever goal in history against rival Atlanta United this past weekend.

They came into the match even on points (64) with LAFC and eager for three more in their pursuit of the Supporters Shield, which goes to the team with the most at the end of the regular season. Despite taking five corner kicks, Philadelphia didn't have many scoring chances. Additionally, Nashville SC will receive 10% of any future transfer fee outside of Major League Soccer. “I think we are doing on the field what the fans expect from us.

Charlotte are entering their first full season under head coach Christian Lattanzio. They missed the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs as a first-year club, slotting ninth in the Eastern Conference table. “It was a pleasure to see Dani’s skills evolve throughout the year and make a strong impact on the field late in the season, which is a testament to the type of player development we’re building at Charlotte FC,” sporting director Zoran Krneta said in a release.

Restaurant Bites: The Cheesecake Factory to open, SouthPark spots closing

cheesecake factory in charlotte nc

Food items range from hamburgers to southern comfort food, to Asian-inspired dishes. Choose from more than 250 dishes made fresh from scratch every day and more than 40 legendary cheesecakes and desserts. Though not locally based, The Cheesecake Factory is set to open its second Charlotte-area restaurant this month at Birkdale Village in Huntersville. That 2,500-square-foot location will mark the fifth for the brand. Charlotte brewery Resident Culture is also putting its next location in uptown, at The Market at 7th Street. It plans to open that 300-square-foot bar — its third location in Charlotte — this month.

SouthPark Mall

There are also new-to-market additions in Charlotte. One such concept, Puerta, will be opening later this month, paying homage to Mexican food and spirits in Elizabeth. Let’s be honest here, most people come for dessert right? On the way out, they have a huge counter where you can order any type of cheesecake you can imagine. I got Fresh Strawberry Cheesecake and my wife got Oreo Dream Extreme Cheesecake.

The Cheesecake Factory is a beautiful restaurant. It reminds me of pictures I have seen of restaurants and buildings in Italy. My wife and I have been trying to eat at The Cheesecake Factory in Charlotte, NC for years. Every time we would try, there would be a long wait.

My name is Ronnie and it is my goal to bring you the best Southern-inspired recipes, reviews, and restaurants from the South and beyond. To be honest we almost did not go because so many people told us the food was not good but the dessert was. I thought both of our dishes was fantastic!. Ronnie, I've found that restaurants with huge menus are usually not very good.

The Cheesecake Factory is my one exception to that rule. I've loved everything I've ever had there. We don't have one nearby, but I've eaten at various ones while traveling. Two of my favorites are the Chicken Piccata (with mashed potatoes instead of angel hair pasta) and the Pasta Da Vinci.

Dessert

We stood up next to the wall and a nice couple walked up and handed us their pager. They said you will only have a five-minute wait. So we waited for about five minutes and sure enough, they called us back.

For instance, I ordered Chicken Madeira, one of their specialty dishes. My wife ordered Orange Chicken, an Asian-inspired dish. When you walk into the restaurant, it is truly breathtaking. I do not believe I have ever been to a more beautiful chain restaurant before. We walked up and added our names to the list, It is going to be an hour wait the lady said.

SouthPark Mall

Eventually, they moved to Los Angeles and gave the business one more shot. It was a success and she was now selling her famous cheesecakes to restaurants all over Los Angeles. Charlotte wasn’t without its restaurant closures in July either. Bonterra closed in SouthPark late last month, ending its 24-year run in Charlotte. And Dogwood Southern Table & Bar, also in SouthPark, will close in August, with celebrity chef David Burke buying its lease and assets to open a new concept there.

According to The Cheesecake Factory Website, it all started in the 1940s when Evelyn Overton found a recipe in her local Detroit newspaper. This recipe inspired her to make the Original Cheesecake that we all know and love today. Enjoy the high-energy atmosphere seven days a week, serving appetizers, lunch, dinner, late night dining, full bar, Saturday & Sunday brunch, and curbside To-Go service. In a different part of the Charlotte area, local chef Jim Noble just opened his fourth location of Bossy Beulah’s Chicken Shack in Fort Mill. That’s as local franchisees brought the region’s third Slim Chickens to Indian Trail. They really make the best cheesecake but I also have to say the food we ate beforehand was really good as well.

The People’s Market, for starters, is teeing up its second location in Charlotte about a year after making a revival in the Elizabeth neighborhood. The Cheesecake Factory menu features more than 200 menu selections made fresh each day. The Cheesecake Factory doesn’t just serve cheesecake. The menu is very diverse and should offer something to please even the strictest palate.

I Tried Charlotte Tilbury's Beautiful Skin Radiant Concealer

charlotte tilbury under eye concealer

The Charlotte Tilbury concealer couldn’t have come into my life at a better time. The brand describes it as 'shape-wear for the eyes and face', and it really does lift the skin up, playing with light to mask the depth of eye bags. The formula credits clever mica-based pearls for creating a light diffusing effect, soft-focussing silica for smoothing the skin's appearance and glow peptides for reflecting light. Instead of settling into fine lines or sitting on top of your skin like a mask, this concealer acts more like a thin veil that tightens and blurs everything at once. (Do people still say pantyhose?) I watched Charlotte apply a copious amount of this concealer on one hand and couldn’t believe the difference.

The best with caffeine: The INKEY List Eye Cream

Those who have lighter skin tones might notice their dark circles looking green or blue, like the color of veins. To help counteract that, Bobbi Brown created her fan-favorite Under Eye Corrector, which is available in pink- or peach-based shades. The water-, sweat-, and humidity-resistant formula is designed to be layered underneath concealer and foundation for hours of wear. According to our tester, the color payoff is excellent, and she didn’t have a hard time finding a “perfect match.” Just be sure to wear a moisturizer or eye cream before applying; she noticed the product settling into lines after a few hours. Green color correctors are known for their magic ability to neutralize redness related to acne and rosacea.

The best for sensitive skin: L’Oreal Eye Cream

This concealer comes in a sleek wand and features a sponge-tipped applicator with a pointed tip that makes it super easy to swipe in the crevices of your face.

Discover my Best Fragrances for Winter

The world’s most beguiling makeup artist on beauty, stars, love, and sex. Formulations have come on leaps and bounds over the last couple of years and this concealer is definitely at the forefront of the concealer game. Nothing really compares to finding the perfect concealer for your skin and this one does the trick. You can bet that this concealer will be a constant member of my makeup routine. ‘Cosmic Power’s’ Emotion-Boosting Molecules can help you tune in to your inner power.

NYX have dropped a new £6.99 colour correcting concealer that gives a ‘flawless finish’

The Live Tinted Hue Stick Corrector contains vitamins C and E (as well as squalane and hyaluronic acid) to help nourish the under-eye area as it conceals dark circles. I rely on blush and bronze to even and perk up my complexion, but one area that does need a little more love for this fresh-faced look, is my dark under eye area. The trouble then being, it's hard to find a concealer that has enough coverage to do the job, that doesn't contrast with bare skin in texture or tone. Then any product light enough to blend out invisibly, can only do so much for the dark circles, and doesn't tend to last long. From camouflaging blemishes to masking dark under-eye circles, finding the best concealer can be a sure way to achieve a healthy look. I always end up picking a shade that’s not quite right—I don’t whether that’s a me problem or a concealer problem.

In short, it's working to create the same qualities it's designed to replicate. That's where Charlotte Tilbury's Beautiful Skin Radiant Concealer has blown me away. It offers coverage I've only witnessed from heavy set cream concealers, yet somehow is barely detectable on the skin, as though it were almost transparent.

On days when I’m looking for more coverage, I’ll go in with my beauty blender to really push the concealer into the skin for that flawless, high- coverage finish. A personal favorite of Dr. Idriss, these easy-to-use color-correcting sticks from Live Tinted are a great addition to any makeup kit. Sure, they’re comparable to a cosmetic crayon, but they do a fantastic job of disguising pigmentation on darker skin tones and serve as a nifty multi-stick for a wash of color on eyelids, cheeks, and lips. Take your pick between five orange-y red shades and dab some color on your under eyes. Our tester shared that the crayon tip made it easy to apply, and loved that she didn’t need to rely on a specific applicator or brush to get the product out.

As part of your account, you’ll receive occasional updates and offers from New York, which you can opt out of anytime. I apply it generously around my nose, on the inner parts of my cheeks, forehead area between my brows, and chin. The wand makes it super easy to swipe on wherever, and then you simply blend the formula in with your fingers.

Specifically designed for the delicate skin around your eyes, new advanced formulas can transform the area from dull, dark and puffy to smooth, soft, refreshed and revitalised. Applying powder as the final step will help set your concealer and provide crease resistance and control shine. Depending on your preference and desired finish, you can use either a pressed powder, like Charlotte Tilbury Mini Airbrush Flawless Finish Setting Powder or Quiet on Set Setting Powder, or a loose powder, such as Dior Forever Cushion Powder.

She began her career in beauty journalism with the British Vogue team, where she discovered that beauty isn’t just frivolous but can be a tool to empower individuals and give them a voice which they were not afforded. If you haven't tried the Beautiful Skin Foundation (the one product so light and natural that it may just have persuaded me back to wearing foundation) you can use the online matchfinder tool for both the foundation(as seen below) and the concealer. A gorgeous pink toned shade that works on all skin tones and for all looks. Charlotte Tilbury's Beautiful Skin Radiant Concealer is a rare find that for me, exceeds the hype. Not only does it seriously deliver on its promises to brighten, conceal and correct without masking the skin, it has also solved one of my most frequent makeup gripes; it works beautifully with a bare face.

I should mention that if you’re looking for something to cover acne, severe redness, or melasma, you might be better opting for a heavier-duty concealer. Likewise, you might skip if you prefer applying concealer with your fingers or a brush. But if you’re looking to blur out large pores (me), brighten dark circles and spots (also me), and help your skin look naturally luminous and ageless (me me me!), this concealer might be your new holy grail. The brand says to apply after your foundation, to see where you need more coverage. It also suggests using one shade lighter than your skin tone for a brightening effect under the eyes.

Our tester was really happy with the results, sharing that the formula provided the perfect amount of coverage to her under-eye area. Along with shades for brightening and concealing, you'll find a few made specifically for color correcting peppered in. The brand notes its shade Deep can be used to color correct with its red undertones, and Deep Tan has peach undertones. However, you won't find extensive options beyond those two shades, like a green shade for canceling out redness or lavender to brighten skin. Most of the other 18 shades contain warm, cool, or neutral undertones like most traditional concealers.

The brand recommends matching the number to your corresponding Beautiful Skin Foundation shade to conceal, or going a shade or two lighter for brightening. I wear shade 11, which is not too grey or too orange, it’s the perfect concealer for everyday which melts into the skin seamlessly, delivering that smooth and natural coverage. The warmth of my hands helps to melt the product into my skin for a natural finish.

If you wear foundation, apply concealer on top of it to help reduce the appearance of blemishes, redness and pigmentation. As for finishes, “If you have normal to dry skin, a radiant finish concealer is a great option for keeping the under-eye area hydrated, preventing the formula from settling into fine lines. For oily or blemish-prone skin, I like a mattifying formula with full coverage and long wearability to keep excess shine at bay.

Bold Black Pepper Oil, divine Cinnamon Bark Oil, captivating Clove Oil, mystical Amber Accord and enchanting Vanilla Bean Extract are a constellation of powerful notes that can empower you to walk tall this winter. ‘More Sex’ is more than just a winter fling, darlings, but its musk and leather notes feel particularly captivating in the colder months. ‘More Sex’ teases the senses with top notes of Black Pepper Oil and Juniper Berry Oil, then opens up to reveal racy Leather and a seductive Sexual Accord of mood-setting Ambroxan and Musk.

Charlotte Roche Author of Feuchtgebiete

Evidently cleanliness for health is a myth, because other than her unusual condition, she is incredibly hearty and resilient. The major part of Wetlands is made up of Helen's thoughts, reminiscences and sexual fantasies while confined to her hospital bed. A sexually active woman since she was fifteen, she has had sex with many men and boys and describes herself as continuously randy. Shortly after her 18th birthday she had herself sterilised without telling her parents about it. To that end, “Wetlands” is narrated by 18-year-old Helen Memel, who has been suffering from an anal lesion after an intimate shaving incident. The entire book takes place on the proctology unit as she recovers from surgery.

When the book was originally rejected by a German publisher on the grounds of being pornographic, Roche insisted to them that it was no such thing. But she admits the defensiveness was somewhat disingenuous. The only difficult part was inventing new names for the components of female genitalia - such as "pearl trunk" for the clitoris, and "lady fingers" for labia. Women and their rear ends are not a new subject. Former ballet dancer Toni Bentley wrote “The Surrender” in 2004, her memoir about sodomy that was appalling in a different and, frankly, less interesting way.

Mavis Leno joins husband Jay at a premiere after dementia revelation: ‘I feel great’

The presence of the parents provokes corny psychology lessons on dysfunctional families, and Helen's originality and ingenuity seem less remarkable when attributed to family trauma. Why doesn't Roche bravely proclaim her heroine's outlook NORMAL? Let Helen be promiscuous, impetuous and insubordinate because she wants to be, not because there's anything wrong with her or her childhood. Her previous hospital stays include a bout of appendicitis she faked in order to postpone a French exam, and a sterilisation her mother knows nothing about. She's pretty angry at her mother, not just about the divorce, but about other crimes too, from mild maternal interference to suicide attempts.

Review: Bad but entertaining, ‘Miller’s Girl,’ starring Jenna Ortega, is pure unintentional camp

It is noticeable that none of the German reviews and features on your book tried to make the link between your style as a writer and your style as a television presenter – even though the latter is very original and wordy, and has won you awards. It’s almost as if reviewers tried to deny the fact that you have such a ‘low-brow’ CV. The fascination in Germany has inevitably centred on how closely Helen's sex life resembles Roche's own. Charlotte Elisabeth Grace Roche (born 18 March 1978) is a British-German television presenter, author, producer, and actress.[1] She is best-known for her 2009 novel Wetlands. All the physician and provider reviews on WebMD Care are provided by users just like you. Knowing these reviews provide insight into how other patients feel about a doctor, we maintain internal policies and protocols to ensure the quality and accuracy of all reviews.

Most patients would subside into misery and humiliation afterwards, desperately awaiting release - either from "the ass ward" or from life itself. But Helen, despite a fear of never having a working sphincter again, embarks on an amorous pursuit of one of the nurses, and a campaign to spread her blood, germs and pee throughout the hospital. In drips and oozes, her real story emerges. She is the completely neglected child of two repressed and depressed people. She doesn’t know what her father does for work. She has memories she does not trust and a recurring vision of an event that could not have occurred.

Granta 166: Generations Online

As with Chuck Palahniuk, there's a consistent - and somewhat formulaic - endeavour here to gross you out. Helen is keen to inform us, repeatedly, that every squeezable, drainable, detachable substance produced by the body (hers, her lovers', or yours) can be and should be eaten - except hair, which she shaves off weekly, and ear wax, for which she shows unexpected disdain. There's no mention of belly button fluff either - but blackheads, snot, puke, pus, scabs, tears, smegma, eyelid crumbs, vaginal discharges, menstrual blood and other gunk are all acceptable fodder, especially when dried to a crust under the fingernails. "I'm my own garbage disposal. Bodily secretion recycler," she tells us proudly. The passage in which she rips open her own wound to prolong her stay in hospital is even more challenging for the weak-stomached reader. I’m convinced that in contemporary society a lot of women have a very messed-up attitude to their own bodies.

More From the Los Angeles Times

So we learn that Helen had herself secretly sterilized as soon as she reached majority, and now grows avocados instead of babies. She masturbates with the pits and simulates giving birth to them. “Eggs are a constant theme with me,” she says, before describing how one of her partners experiments with hard-boiled ones. A lot of the critical confusion about how to read the book probably stems from Roche's appealing determination not to be "an author who takes herself too seriously". But it is, for all the humour, a serious feminist book.

Her debut novel, Wetlands, which was published in her native Germany in 2008 and went on to become a worldwide bestseller, began with an 11-page description of the protagonist accidentally slicing into her haemorrhoids while shaving. Wrecked starts with a similarly detailed account of oral sex, which could well be described as "blow-by-blow". But I suspect such depths did not occur to Roche, who insists that “Wetlands” is a celebration of the female body. She does seem to have hitched a ride on the zeitgeist — the book is being translated into 27 languages.

She has no qualms about public bathrooms, the toilet seats or even the floors, and she is proud that she rarely bathes. “Obviously that means I never wash my face either. I think it’s overrated anyway.” Everything she does is a test to see whether the old wives’ tales are true and if bacterium is really such a terrible thing.

We’re obsessed with cleanliness, with getting rid of our natural excretions and our body hair. So I wanted to write about the ugly parts of the human body. In order to tell that story, I created a heroine that has a totally creative attitude towards her body – someone who has never even heard that women are supposedly smelly between their legs. Eventually she began shaving again, just "to get rid of the issue", and still does.

Wetlands, Roche says, had originally been intended as a serious polemic against the tyranny of female sexual hygiene. Unsurprisingly, Helen’s obsessions turn out to be a reaction to her parents’ divorce, and to her parents themselves. Her mother is so averse to bodily function that she claims not to have bowel movements, while her father is unashamed to give her a get-well “hemorrhoid pillow.” Neither talks about her mother’s attempt to kill herself and Helen’s brother when Helen was a child.

It's not always clear, however, whether Helen is sexually liberated, or slightly mad. When not trying to seduce the nurse, she is preoccupied by a childish fantasy that if she can only get her long divorced parents' hospital visits to coincide, they will get back together again. Panicking that she may be discharged before engineering their reunion, she forcibly ruptures her wound to prolong her stay - a feat of self-harm almost unreadable for its violence, and ultimate futility. A feminist critique might question why Roche has created a character who seems to conform to the old notion that sexual liberation always comes at the price of instability. The book is a headlong dash through every crevice and byproduct, physical and psychological, of its narrator's body and mind. It is difficult to overstate the raunchiness of the novel.

Why This Viking Ocean Cruise Is the Best Way to See Northern Europe

viking homelands cruise

So relaxed is Copenhagen, locals say it is not unusual to see the crown prince or princess casually pedalling their brood through town to school. Again, having the ship berthed close to the centre of the city enabled a day at our leisure in this lovely city. For the history buff, the best-preserved Renaissance architecture in Denmark is found in Alborg as well as some of Scandinavia’s richest historical sights.

For current fares, please call a Viking Expert: 1-855-707-4837 or Request a Quote today.

We traveled though the Stavanger archipelago, viewing the many vacation homes situated on small islets along the way. Its name, “light fjord”, comes from the lightly colored granite rock rising from the waters. A popular destination for hikers, this incredible rock formation juts out high above the fjord.

They range in date from the 18th to the early 20th centuries and are considered the best kept wooden buildings in Northern Europe. In one section of the old town, we discovered the very colorful buildings that are so frequently found in iconic pictures of Stavanger. At the Belvedere Palace, you can make your own framed mirror with gold stones at a private workshop, channelling Vienna’s renowned artist, Gustav Klimt, who used gold leaf in many of his works. This Baroque-style museum is home to precious art including iconic works by Klimt such as ‘The Kiss’.

It is located on a hilltop, offering some of the best views of Stockholm. We purchased tickets to the Vasa Museum online, so easily just walked in as the museum opened. The ship sank after sailing roughly 1,400 yards into her maiden voyage on August 10, 1628, and somewhere between 30 and 150 people perished.

Typically, cruise lines operate either ocean cruises or river cruises but not both. Leaving the ship on disembarkation day is always a little depressing. But, in our case we were starting our post-extension trip, Oslo & Scenic Train.

Admire the Norwegian fjords

The cruise departs in the early-afternoon of the second day with a scenic sailing through the stunning Stockholm archipelago. From the descendants of Scandinavian emigrants to lovers of landscapes and culture, everyone will enjoy the Viking Homelands Cruise. This magnificent two-week cruise takes cruisers to the southern coasts of Scandinavia and around the Baltic Sea, one of the best cruise destinations in the world.

Gaze at foaming waterfalls that plunge into the fjord’s waters, visit the cosmopolitan cities of Berlin and Copenhagen, and linger longer on overnight calls in Stockholm, Oslo and Bergen. The LivNordic spa is an ideal spot to visit during sea days or after a chilly shore excursion in the fjords. On Viking Jupiter, you’ll find modern, clean, and brand-new cabins. All rooms have flat-screen TVs, ample closet space with built-in shelves, bathrobes, safes, a small seating area, and a desk with a pop-up vanity.

A 15 percent gratuity is automatically added to bar, beverage, wine, and deck service tabs. If you want to make changes to the amounts or pay in cash, you can do so onboard. You can also pre-purchase the standard recommended gratuity ahead of time, which is shared among the onboard staff. We would have felt a walking tour like we had previously done would have been far more valuable to those who had never visited this incredible city before. The ship is in port for two full days which is perfect for a city like St Petersburg. Unfortunately, the port is not close to the city; so you are reliant on the scheduled transfers to and from selected tours.

Santorini is the stunning highlight of Viking’s 11-day Greek Odyssey voyage . Get fabulously lost in its winding streets lined with whitewashed homes, shops and cafés. From a cliff 400 metres above the ocean, finish your day watching the Cyclades sun setting over the turquoise waters of the Aegean Sea.

Enjoy charming Bergen, a historic city full of colorful architecture and a lively atmosphere. Explore Stockholm’s archipelago from the water or perhaps visit one of the city’s museums. Arriving in Norway, you’ll now have the chance to see some of Europe’s most impressive landscapes. Additionally, there are also several world-renowned restaurants here, so we definitely recommend indulging in some mouthwatering Scandinavian cuisine, too. Viking also offers Antarctica sailings that combine a visit to the White Continent with stops in the Falkland Islands, Uruguay and Brazil. Dubbed Viking Octantis, the first of these vessels began sailings to Antarctica in February 2022.

Concordia Cruise Disaster

italy cruise accident

The sad anniversary comes as the cruise industry, shut down in much of the world for months because of the coronavirus pandemic, is once again in the spotlight because of COVID-19 outbreaks that threaten passenger safety. The U.S. Centers for Disease Control last month warned people across-the-board not to go on cruises, regardless of their vaccination status, because of the risks of infection. The Concordia was supposed to take passengers on a seven-day Italian cruise from Civitavecchia to Savona. But when it deviated from its planned path to sail closer to the island of Giglio, the ship struck a reef known as the Scole Rocks. The impact damaged the ship, allowing water to seep in and putting the 4,229 people on board in danger.

GIGLIO, Italy — Ten years have passed since the Costa Concordia cruise ship slammed into a reef and capsized off the Tuscan island of Giglio. But for the passengers on board and the residents who welcomed them ashore, the memories of that harrowing, freezing night remain vividly etched into their minds. Evidence introduced in Schettino’s trial suggests that the safety of his passengers and crew wasn’t his number one priority as he assessed the damage to the Concordia.

Ship remnants and artifacts

The impact and water leakage caused an electrical blackout on the ship, and a recorded phone call with Costa Crociere’s crisis coordinator, Roberto Ferrarini, shows he tried to downplay and cover up his actions by saying the blackout was what actually caused the accident. Ten years have passed since the Costa Concordia cruise ship slammed into a reef and capsized off the Tuscan island of Giglio. An investigation focused on shortcomings in the procedures followed by Costa Concordia's crew and the actions of her captain, Francesco Schettino, who left the ship prematurely. He left about 300 passengers on board the sinking vessel, most of whom were rescued by helicopter or motorboats in the area. Despite receiving its own share of criticism, Costa Cruises and its parent company, Carnival Corporation, did not face criminal charges.

Wrecked Costa Concordia liner makes its final journey

He said children and women were given priority when it came to allocating places on lifeboats, but the system proved to be difficult to implement because many men "weren't accepting this" because they wanted to remain together as a family, prompting "huge confusion". Cruise ship shop worker Fabio Costa said when people realised there was a serious problem, there were scenes of desperation. Then the ship rolled again, now listing to the right, and the captain ordered the ship to be abandoned. A 2020 graduate of Kent State University with a Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Aaron has worked as an assigning editor and reporter for KSU's student-run newspaper The Kent Stater, as well as a News Intern with WKSU Public Radio, Kent State's local NPR affiliate. In a statement, Codacons said the award was a "very important victory" since it showed the "total incongruity" of Costa's compensation package to most of the victims. The family were unsure whether to go back to Giglio for a ceremony Thursday and a candle-lit procession marking 10 years since the disaster.

And on Thursday, as he arrived for the commemorative Mass, he received an award from the Civil Protection Agency. The Costa Concordia, a vast, luxury liner, had run aground off Italy's Giglio island and was toppling over into freezing waters, in a disaster that would leave 32 people dead. It will also honour the 4,200 survivors and the residents of Giglio who took in passengers and crew, offering clothes and shelter until passengers could return to the mainland.

For Concordia survivors, the COVID-19 infections on cruise ships are just another indication that passenger safety still isn’t a top industry priority. Concordia passengers were largely left on their own to find life jackets and a functioning lifeboat. Because of the delayed evacuation order, many lifeboats couldn’t be lowered because the ship was already on its side.

Costa Concordia disaster

Eyewitnesses have described scenes of chaos on board the Italian cruise ship the Costa Concordia, which has run aground off Italy, killing at least five people. Time-lapse video shows the raising of the wrecked Italian cruise ship Costa Concordia from the underwater platform it has been resting on for the past year. Costa sent representatives to the ceremonies and issued a statement saying the company’s thoughts were with the victims and their relatives. Costa noted that since the disaster, it undertaken the massive operation to right the ship, remove it, and restore the damaged seabed. Kevin Rebello had become close to many Giglio residents and rescuers during the months that divers searched for his brother.

An MSC spokesperson explained to NPR that the cruise ship is now being moored at the Marittima terminal and has begun passenger operations. A politician with the Italian Left party, Nicola Fratoianni, even went as far as to call cruise ships "steel monsters" which "risk carnage" in the seaside town. Schettino was convicted of multiple manslaughter as well as abandoning ship after leaving before all the passengers had reached safety. The lifeboats wouldn't drop down because the ship was tilted on its side, leaving hundreds of passengers stranded on the side of the ship for hours in the cold.

Costa Concordia is gone, but horror lingers 10 years later

Images shot later by the coastguard would show divers in the sunken restaurant, battling through flotsam, searching for victims. Schettino, later sentenced to 16 years for the shipwreck, delayed sounding the alarm. Ship horns will sound and church bells ring at 9.45pm to mark the moment the liner, owned by Costa Crociere, subsidiary of US based giant Carnival, struck an outcrop, after captain Francesco Schettino ordered a sail-by "salute" to the Tuscan island.

He appealed the verdict, but it was upheld in May 2017; Schettino began serving his sentence shortly thereafter. After the ship hit the reef, the engine room flooded and generators failed, causing a power outage that sent the ship adrift until it eventually crashed offshore and capsized. Evidence presented at the trial showed Schettino downplayed the severity of the situation in communications with the Coast Guard and delayed an evacuation order, then abandoned ship before all the passengers and crew were off.

In a first step to prevent pollution of the shore and assist in a refloat the ship, its oil and fuel tanks were emptied. “Every one of us here has a tragic memory from then,” said Mario Pellegrini, 59, who was deputy mayor in 2012 and was the first civilian to climb onto the cruise ship after it struck the rocks near the lighthouses at the port entrance. "What happened in the port of Venice is confirmation of what we have been saying for some time. Cruise ships must not sail down the Giudecca. We have been working on moving them for months now ... and are nearing a solution." As can be heard in the videos, those aboard the ship and on shore were left wondering aloud what might come of the shipwreck.

A memorial service was held on Giglio on Thursday (Jan 13) to mark 10 years since the disaster, a wreath was thrown into the water in memory of the victims and a candle-lit procession planned. A decade after that harrowing night, the survivors are grateful to have made it out alive. None of the survivors who spoke with Cobiella have been on a cruise since that day. "I felt like (my daughters) were going to get trampled, and putting my arms around them and just holding them together and letting the sea of people go by us." According to the Genoa daily newspaper Il Secolo XIX there were some 4,000 passengers in all aboard the ship, which arrived in Genoa from Marseille. Other positive passengers will be disembarked in Civitavecchia, a port that serves Rome, or in Palermo, Sicily, it added.

Passenger falls off 10th deck of Royal Caribbean cruise ship

cruise ship incidents

Most statistical data regarding passenger ship accidents and cruise incidents is based on official reports published online by United States Coast Guard (USCG.mil). Statistics for cruise illness outbreaks are based on official reports published online by the US agency "Centers for Disease Control and Prevention" (CDC.gov). When a passenger or crew disappears (officially is reported missing) while the vessel is at sea, the cruise company has the duty to conduct an onboard search immediately upon learning about it. If the person is not found on board, then the ship reports the incident to USCG and FBI and starts a search and rescue operation. The ship returns to the last location at sea when the victim was last seen. This location is often subject to adjusting for weather and sea conditions.

Thousands more flights canceled on Christmas Day, putting a damper on holiday travel

The ship’s engine room caught fire in the Gulf of Mexico early in the morning. Fortunately, the incident did not result in passengers or crew members losing their lives, but over 4,000 passengers were stranded for several days. Such freak accidents may seem rare, but hundreds have occurred without warning around the world — on cruise ships, cargo vessels, oil platforms and beaches. The Carnival Freedom was denied entry to Aruba and Bonaire after an undisclosed number of passengers and crew aboard caught the virus. You can email us a detailed report, or simply share your thoughts on events at sea/ashore you know about or whatever cruising-related bothers you. The idea is much like that of a forum, but with one HUGE difference - you will not find topic discussions here.

Seattle Begins Milestone Alaska Season With Norwegian Cruise Line Ship

According to CLIA, cruise lines have maintained an exceptional safety record and cruising is one of the safest forms of travel. A passenger traveling on Royal Caribbean's Symphony of the Seas vessel went overboard on October 29 after the ship departed Barcelona and was saved. College student Sigmund Ropich of Texas was vacationing with his friends on Royal Caribbean's Wonder of the Seas, the largest cruise ship in the world in August, his sister Savannah Ropich told Business Insider. Carnival Elation passenger Jaylen Hill, 30, went overboard on the vessel on July 23 as the ship was on a four-day Bahamas sailing and on its way back to Jacksonville, Florida.

How Common Are Serious Cruise Ship Accidents?

Nassau's image today is synonymous with violent crime, ineffective law enforcement, non-functioning legal system. Cruise companies often argue that tour operators are wholly independent and, as such, they have no legal responsibility to disembarked passengers. However, it is often apparent that tour operators are either cruise line agents or joint ventures with the companies. Cruise ship companies earn large profits from tours and excursions, and often they control nearly every aspect of the contract-based relationship with the tour company.

The 64-year-old mother went overboard while the cruise was on its way to Singapore. Witnesses said cruise crew members managed to find her and brought her safely back on board in a roughly 45-minute ordeal. Passengers scheduled for those late-March cruises are being offered full refunds and credit that can be used for a future cruise, it said. The ship set sail out of Fort Lauderdale on March 16 for a seven-night trip. A U.S. Coast Guard spokesperson said she was looking into the statement and was unable to immediately confirm it. Dutch government inspectors determined the vessel to be "fully operable," and this was "confirmed" by the U.S.

On Isla Roatan (Bay Islands), numerous passengers and crew members have suffered "bad cruise" experiences due to armed robberies and assaults.

Carnival passengers recount ‘nightmare’ cruise as storm floods ship

They are unique and complicated as incidents which occur in foreign countries and involve foreign tour operators. For the most part, even weather-related incidents are rare, as cruise ships have sophisticated weather detection systems that they can use to alter routes and avoid storms. Even the ships are designed for maximum stability, so passengers rarely experience weather-related discomfort. In most cases, cruise ship accidents tend to be relatively small in scale. These minor incidents involve individual passengers, like slips and falls or small-scale kitchen fires that are quickly extinguished.

Most of the reported incidents are related to rapes, robberies and kidnappings. Usually, such maritime rescue operations also include a Lockheed HC-130 Hercules (military transport aircraft) that supports communications coverage. Statistical data show that an average "cruise ship overboard" search and rescue operation conducted by the USCG could cost easily USD 0,5 million, and even reach USD 1 million. Passengers could not use toilets and showers, while air conditioning systems and other electronics were disabled. The Costa Concordia incident remains one of the most well-known cruise ship accidents in recent history. In early 2012, a Carnival Cruise Corporation-owned ship called the Costa Concordia accidentally rammed a large rock off the coast of Isola del Giglio, Italy.

The Viking Sky, a Viking Ocean Cruises vessel, underwent severe engine problems in March 2019. The event occurred off the coast of Norway and was made much more powerful due to extreme weather issues. Royal Caribbean also introduced more advanced emergency response training programs for all cruise ship employees, which included fire suppression techniques and evacuation-oriented muster drill protocols. A possible rogue wave sent headlines around the world last week after it broke windows on a cruise ship off the coast of Argentina, killing a woman and injuring four others.

There were 3,328 guests and 1,159 crew members on board when it crashed, none of whom were injured and all safely disembarked, according to Princess Cruises. Because of a lack of navigational abilities, the ship had to be steered manually from the engine room, per the news agency. Kuhn, who declined to comment to NBC News on Wednesday, shared some videos he posted on Twitter of the rescue efforts. A 57-year-old man was dropping off customers at pier 2 when a bystander told him that his vehicle was moving forward.

Hill was reported missing by a travel companion hours after he was last seen. Experts say such time gaps between a fall and the start of a search are a big part of why overboard incidents are so deadly. The passenger was being kept on the cruise ship’s medical facility and later transferred to the Hospital in Willemstad, Curacao for evaluation." You have here the opportunity to read and post about cruise events at sea and ashore, and share facts that the big-money-making cruise line companies don't like - and want to forget.

In a 2020 study, a professor examined more than 620 cruise deaths from 2000 through the end of 2019. He found that overboard incidents — falling, jumping or being thrown — were the leading cause of death among passengers and crew members, accounting for 23 percent of all deaths. While it’s true that tens of millions of people vacation on cruise ships every year without incident, experts say a combination of mitigatable risks and loose safety regulations are contributing to deaths. Carnival Cruise Line's Carnival Horizon cruise ship is shown docked at PortMiami in April. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention is investigating more cruise ships due to new COVID-19 cases aboard. The cruise ship company said in a statement to Sky News that the captain "immediately initiated all necessary rescue measures in close coordination with the local authorities."

Another "favorable" drug smuggle destination is Western Caribbean (roundtrips from Florida), with stops in Honduras, Jamaica, Mexico, from where drugs are smuggled into the US. On April 22, 2016, "International Maritime Organization" (IMO) officially banned cruise ships and ferries from dumping their untreated wastewater into Baltic Sea. The ban will be enforced in 2019 (for new vessels, built after 2010) and in 2021 (for older ships). The ban will chiefly affect larger ships cruising in the Gulf of Finland during summer. The measure makes Baltic Sea the world's first open sea region banning the passenger ships' sewage-dumping practice.

The Ruby Princess cruise ship that was damaged after it crashed into a pier in San Francisco is expected to set sail on Sunday afternoon after it was cleared for departure. Passengers on Saga Cruises’ Spirit of Adventure cruise ship were injured after getting caught in a storm over the weekend. Two civilian support vessels are aiding the ship in its journey to port, Danish rescue authorities said. One passenger posted a video on Facebook showing the view from her room's window Thursday with the cruise ship bobbing up and down and creaking in the throes of high waves. Democratic Sen. Richard Blumenthal is calling for the CDC and cruise lines to again halt cruise travel, six months after the industry mounted its comeback.

"I have my moments where I break, but I'm keeping the faith," she told Business Insider as the search continued. Reeta Sahani was on Royal Caribbean's Spectrum of the Seas with her husband on July 31 in the Singapore Strait, the last day of their four-day cruise to Malaysia. The family of 35-year-old Australian cruise passenger Warwick Tollemache told Nine News he was a "kind, beautiful, and gentle soul who was adored by everyone who knew him."

FAQs: Contacting Someone on the Ship

One of the great perks of Elite status is gaining access to the Captain's Club Coffee Lounge, where you can enjoy a coffeehouse-style breakfast each morning. This is a particularly big deal on shore excursion days, as it means you have a relatively quiet and uncrowded place to grab a quick breakfast before heading out for a tour. The Select tier adds bigger discounts on internet and photo packages (25% and 30% off, respectively). You'll also get an invitation to a wine tasting and a backstage tour on the ship; a discounted price for one standard bag of laundry (wash, dry and fold) if your cruise is 12 nights or longer; and two complimentary pressed items. There's also one more way to earn Captain's Club points. In 2020, Celebrity launched a new program called Power Up Points that allows Captain's Club members to earn bonus points by filling out online surveys, participating on social media or booking specific promotions.

How to reach a person at Celebrity Cruises

For someone who always stays in balcony cabins and prefers seven-night sailings, it would take an almost inconceivable 143 cruises to reach the Zenith tier. Put another way, you'd have to spend 1,000 days at sea with Celebrity to hit the Zenith mark. As an immigrant, I feel duty-bound to complete the tasks I am paid for, which means reaching out and trying to understand my fellow cruisers. So I put on a normal James Perse T-shirt and headed for one of the bars on the Royal Promenade—the Schooner Bar, it was called, if memory serves correctly.

Celebrity Cruises mailing address

One other notable perk of Celebrity's Captain's Club loyalty program is that members who reach the Select tier of status will get matching status in the loyalty program at Royal Caribbean, a sister brand. The matching status will be at the Platinum level of Royal Caribbean's Crown & Anchor Society program, which is the second of six tiers in the Royal Caribbean program. It brings such benefits as special member discounts on balcony cabins and suites, invitations to members-only events and the delivery of robes to your cabin for use while on board. Like many frequent cruiser programs, Celebrity's Captain's Club loyalty program doesn't offer all that many truly valuable perks at its lower tiers.

How Do I Contact a Cruise Ship?

I heard a southern couple skip the buffet entirely out of fear of Mr. Washy Washy. As a coddled passenger with a suite, I feel like I am starting to understand what it means to have a rank and be constantly reminded of it. There are many espresso makers, I think as I look across the expanse of my officer-grade quarters before closing my eyes, but this one is mine. “We’re just baby Pinnacles,” Mrs. Palo Alto tells me, describing a kind of internal class struggle among the Pinnacle elite for ever higher status. Not Den, but when I had to call them recently I called the Captain's club and asked for resolutions.

celebrity cruise line phone number

Pandemic Pinnacles took advantage of the two-for-one accrual rate of Pinnacle points during the pandemic, when sailing on a cruise ship was even more ill-advised, to catapult themselves into Pinnacle status. I also get reserved seating for a performance of The Wizard of Oz, an ice-skating tribute to the periodic table, and similar provocations. The very color of my Suite Sky SeaPass Card, an oceanic blue as opposed to the cloying royal purple of the standard non-Suite passenger, will soon provoke envy and admiration. But as high as my status may be, there are those on board who have much higher status still, and I will soon learn to bow before them. As is often the case with cruise line loyalty programs, Celebrity customers do not have to requalify for status each year.

CAPTAIN’S CLUB

It turns out that the aft is the stern of the ship, or, for those of us who don’t know what a stern or an aft are, its ass. The nose of the ship, responsible for separating the waves before it, is also called a bow, and is marked for passengers as the FWD, or forward. The part of the contemporary sailing vessel where the malls are clustered is called the midship. I trust that you have enjoyed this nautical lesson.

Drinking next to full-size, nearly naked Americans takes away one’s own self-consciousness. The women are equally un-shy about their sprawling physiques. In my white robe, I am a stately presence, a refugee from a better limited series, a one-man crossover episode. (Only Suites are granted these robes to begin with.) Today, I will try many of the activities these ships have on offer to provide their clientele with a sense of never-ceasing motion. Storm Chasers consists of falling from the “mast” down a long, twisting neon tube filled with water, like being the camera inside your own colonoscopy, as you hold on to the handles of a mat, hoping not to die. The tube then flops you down headfirst into a trough of water, a Royal Caribbean baptism.

Captain's Club Phone number

Captain's Club members keep their points at the end of each year and continue to accrue points indefinitely. This means that someone who hits Zenith status will remain at that top tier level forever (or until Celebrity makes a change to the program). The good news here is that you can be recognized at the program's first tier (Preview) before you even take a single cruise.

When staying in a top suite, you can earn as many as 18 to 24 points per day. We know this works because we had to use it on our cruise last month. The travel team contacted the ship and resolved everything in an expeditious manner (10 min.).

Most often, they will small-talk over me as if I don’t exist. This brings to mind the travails of David Foster Wallace, who felt so ostracized by his fellow passengers that he retreated to his cabin for much of his voyage. And Wallace was raised primarily in the Midwest and was a much larger, more American-looking meatball than I am.

If he couldn’t talk to these people, how will I? What if I leave this ship without making any friends at all, despite my T-shirt? I am a social creature, and the prospect of seven days alone and apart is saddening. Wallace’s stateroom, at least, had a view of the ocean, a kind of cheap eternity.

He has dreams, as an artist and a performer, but they are limited in scope. One day he wants to dress up as a piece of bacon for the morning shift. THERE ARE BARELY 48 HOURS LEFT to the cruise, and the Icon of the Seas’ passengers are salty. They understand that the chicken gyro at “Feta Mediterranean,” in the AquaDome Market, is the least problematic form of chicken on the ship.

The aforementioned gangway opens up directly onto a thriving mall (I will soon learn it is imperiously called the “Royal Promenade”), presently filled with yapping passengers beneath a ceiling studded with balloons ready to drop. Crew members from every part of the global South, as well as a few Balkans, are shepherding us along while pressing flutes of champagne into our hands. By a humming Starbucks, I drink as many of these as I can and prepare to find my cabin. I show my blue Suite Sky SeaPass Card (more on this later, much more) to a smiling woman from the Philippines, and she tells me to go “aft.” Which is where, now?
